Dice Rolls

VsD exclusively uses ten-sided dice (d10) in terms of physical dice. Most frequently you roll a pair of them to serve as a d100, occasionally it will ask you to roll a d10 by itself or roll a d10 and divide the result by 2 for a d5 roll.

Sometimes the rules will specify that something happens on a particular Unmodified Rolls. That means it happens when the dice rolled show a particular number before applying any bonus or modifier. For example, when an attack roll misses, if the Unmodified Roll falls within the weapon or spell’s Clumsy Range, the attacker must roll on the appropriate Fumble table. The effects of Unmodified Rolls are always applied first, before any other result or effect of a roll.

Some rolls are made as Open-Ended Rolls. These are d100 rolls which can explode on either end to produce potentially any integer result. To make an open-ended roll:

  1. Roll a d100.
  2. If you rolled an Unmodified Roll in 6-95, you’re done. Apply any modifiers and you’ve got your result.
  3. If you rolled an Unmodified Roll between 96 and 100, then roll d100 again, adding the result to the initial roll. Continue rolling additional dice until one of them reads 95 or less. The total of all of these dice (plus any modifiers) is your final result.
  4. If you rolled an Unmodified Roll between 01 and 05, then roll d100 again, subtracting the result from the initial roll. Continue rolling additional dice and subtracting them until one lands on 95 or less. The initial roll minus the total of all the subsequent dice, plus any modifiers, is your final result.
